Some Ford Ranger, Puma and Toyota Hino models being recalled – NCC
The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced that selected Ford Ranger XLT and Wildtrak models, some Ford Pumas, as well as selected Hino 700 trucks, are being recalled.
Ford has informed the NCC that they are recalling 438 units of the 2025 Ranger XLT and Wildtrak line-up.
This campaign affects vehicles that were on sale between February 18 and March 18 last year.
According to Ford, the exhaust gas recirculation valve in some of the affected vehicles may fail, which may result in a loss of engine power, typically at speeds below 24 km/h.
Drivers may also experience warning indicators, such as a check engine light appearing on the dashboard, weak acceleration, engine vibration, or the engine failing to start.
A loss of engine power while driving may also increase the risk of an accident.
Ford is also recalling 26 units of the 2023 and 2024 model year Puma passenger vehicles.
This model vehicles were sold between April 28, 2022, and September 25, 2023.
The vehicles were previously recalled, but the remedy restraint control module software may have not been installed correctly on the affected vehicles during this campaign.
The renewed recall effort is meant to correct the software as the underlying condition addressed in the earlier recall may still exist.
If it is not corrected, in the event of an accident, the performance of the vehicle’s restraint system could potentially be reduced, thereby increasing the risk of injury to occupants.
According to Toyota South Africa Motors, the Hino 700 series truck recall affects 58 vehicles sold between February 4 and November 9, last year.
The affected vehicles have a defect that may result in fuel leaks.
Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to take their vehicles to the nearest dealership for repairs where the necessary repair work will be carried out at no cost.
